Draft Format

Just some thoughts on the draft format.
With 320 selections for starters alone an all auction format probably will not work. We need to establish parameters for the transition to a serpentine format.
Values for each player should be established (can get most from any sports web site; others can be determined by the commissioners based on comparable players).
Should all rosters be balanced before switching to the serpentine format? (With an auction format a team may have three selections while another team may have one).
Any other thoughts for Frank to consider before we begin?

Not sure if i missed something along the way but are we talking about going away from an auction style draft? As an auction style rookie but fantasy baseball veteran here are my comments. I feel it is a massive undertaking to try and auction style draft 500 players. I know we were going to try and begin doing it through email but I think that is going to be very difficult. It has taken weeks just to draft 30 minor leaguers. I dont think it would be a good idea to combine or mix draft styles, not sure how that would be done. The whole idea of the auction style is the value owners put on different players. I cant see how it would work on only doing that for 100 or 200 players and then serpentine drafting the rest. I feel it needs to be completely done one way or another. If I understand your comment, it looks like you also suggest doing a draft where the player values are already established. I think that could work but I think we would need to do the whole draft in that manner. In other words a serpentine draft with the #1 pick getting to choose Pujols for 20million a year or Jeter for 12million or Melky Cabrerea for 1million for example. And having to make his team fit into the 100million budget. So in other words Pujols could be the first guy chosen or the 100th guy chosen depending on how people value his worth. I am only commenting on the original post. As a newbie I am happy doing it anyway the commishes choose and I am not looking to change anything. But The post looks like a change is being considered so i figured i would throw in my 3 cents worth.

My comments are suggestions as well - I think we are on the same page. Some parameters need to be established before we start; especially if,how and when a transition from auction format to serpentine format occurs. I am willing to accept whatever the commissioners decide.

i suggest we do auction style on the top 50 players, and serpentine the remainder based on pre determined values

I don't have a problem auctioning players but only if it is done on draft day when everyone is in the same room bidding for a player. All owners will be there and able to concentrate on one thing-building their team. I don't think it will take any longer than a serpentine draft if proper guidelines are established. If players are autioned via internet how long will each team have to respond to a player before the bidding is stopped. What if an owner is on vacation for two weeks in Feb.(as I am) and has no access to a computer? Even if we aution one player a day, it will take over 3 months for each team to draft 5 players(100 total). I know I will start to lose interest after the first 2 weeks. If everyone shows up on March 24 ready to do busines we can get it done. If need be we can do the back end of the draft via computer when lesser talent is involved. Please reconsider.

I like Bmulli am going away for 8 days in February. Little tough for me to get access to a computer at that time. I also agree to possibly finish on the internet when less talent is involved. I also think it would be cool to see a couple of guys really going at it live, get carried away in a pissing contest and over pay for someone like Randy Johnson.
I too will gladly go along with what ever is chosen.
